From a unique take on the Beatles' "And I Love Her" to a funky/bluesy version of the R&B one hit wonder "Ooh Child" this album is full of surprises and fresh ideas. Members of Bay Jazz Project include multi WAMMY award winner Seth Kibel on tenor sax and flute, much in demand bassist, Bob Abbott, incredibly versatile Wes Crawford on drums and soulful Justine Miller on trumpet and flugelhorn. Joining Sean and BJP are several guest artists. National recording artist, Smooth Jazz sax great Walter Beasley plays soprano sax on Sean's "Pleasant Bay Nightside". Crying Sky Blue features six original compositions and three cover tunes, including a spirited "McCoy Tyner-esque" rendering of Neil Young’s “Sugar Mountain”. The CD features Lane’s lush piano intros and distinctive soloing.

Nominated for Best Jazz Recording (Washington Area Music Awards), this is the second CD for the talented pianist and is a distinct departure from his instrumental debut recording, Request for Romance, which presented new arrangements of standards. In contrast, Crying Sky Blue features six original compositions and three cover tunes, including a spirited rendering of Neil Young’s “Sugar Mountain”. The CD features Lane’s lush piano intros and distinctive soloing along with powerful and poetic playing from Seth Kibel on sax and flute, plus guest artists Justine Miller (horns), Christian Josi (vocals), and New York City session man, Jim Snidero (alto sax).

Crying Sky Blue has been welcomed by radio. Baltimore's Marcellus "Bassman" Shepard, from WEAA 88.9FM states "Crying Sky Blue" promotes the perfect marriage between a Man and the Piano! Sean's playing is melodic and his writing supreme!" While Dave May of WHFC 91.1 FM comments, “This rewarding CD has variety and surprising moments, and will appeal to the straight-ahead jazz listener”.

“The songs on this album relate to my influences, especially while growing up,” Sean said. He recalled hearing his father’s jazz records as a child and attending live jazz piano performances at a local restaurant.

“I feel I have something to say through music,” Sean continued. “I really try to surround myself with talented musicians who have something to say too. Together we have a good time performing and we make it fun for the audience as well.”
